Our take
This is a heavy, comfortable fat-tire cruiser for riders who want a step-through frame. The torque sensor makes it feel more like a normal bike than the cadence-sensor fat bikes at this price. The big 960 Wh battery and 400 lb payload are strong for $1,499. Its 79 lb weight is the catch, so plan on a ground-floor spot and a ramp if it ever rides in a truck bed. Both colors were sold out when we checked.

What owners say
On Himiway's own site the D5 family averages 4.8 out of 5 from 63 reviews, and 94% would recommend it. Owners praise the smooth ride, hydraulic brakes and easy step-over frame. One owner reports about 40 miles per charge at 200 lb rider weight. The one complaint we saw was frame scratches from shipping, which got only a small credit after several emails.
Caveat: These reviews are on the maker's own store, which may filter them, and they mix D5 ST and D5 Pro owners. They aren't independent.
