Should you buy one?
Buy the Sync Max if you need a small folding e-bike for a child or a short adult. You can cap the power at low or medium, and medium is about 9 mph, which is what I set for my daughter (1:14 to 1:46). It folds in the middle (0:47 to 0:54) and has an integrated headlight and a brake light (1:53 to 2:57).
Skip it if you’re an average-height adult or need a long commute. I’m about 200 lb and way too big for it (2:13 to 2:21). The seat post can’t be raised (2:24 to 2:43), so pedaling is uncomfortable unless you’re quite short (3:28 to 3:53). I said don’t get it for a long commute (6:01 to 6:05).
The deciding factor: rider size. It’s sized for kids around 8 to 12 and short adults (1:43 to 1:46, 6:31 to 6:38).

What I didn’t test
I didn’t run a range test, a top-speed test, or a braking test, and I didn’t weigh the bike. The 30 mile range, 19 mph top speed, 42.3 lb weight and 260 lb load are Hovsco’s numbers. I’m too big for it, so most of my impressions come from my daughter riding it at medium.
Who it’s for
- Kids around 8 to 12, with the speed capped at medium (1:24 to 1:46).
- Shorter adults (4:01 to 4:04, 6:31 to 6:38).
- Riders who need to fold the bike for a train, bus, or car (0:47 to 0:56, 3:06 to 3:13).
- Short trips, like home to a transit stop (6:05 to 6:11).
Who should look elsewhere
- Average-height adults (2:13 to 2:21, 6:23 to 6:36).
- Anyone with a long commute (6:01 to 6:05).
- Riders who want to pedal; the seat sits too close to the pedals (3:28 to 3:53).
- Anyone who needs gears for hills (6:16 to 6:18).

FAQ
What age is it good for?
I set it to medium, about 9 mph, for my 9-year-old. I think that’s plenty for a child around 8 to 12 (1:33 to 1:46, 3:28 to 3:33).
Can an adult ride it?
A short adult can. At about 200 lb and normal height, I’m too big for it. The motor has enough power for me, but the seat-to-pedal fit doesn’t work (2:13 to 2:21, 6:23 to 6:36).
Does it fold?
Yes, in the center of the frame (0:47 to 0:54).
How fast does it go?
