My verdict
After several weeks on gravel and dirt, this is probably my favorite e-bike now, even over the Aventure 3. The mid-drive is so much more responsive than a hub motor, and in full auto, with Auto assist plus the auto-shifter, I never had to think about gears no matter the terrain. It shifted down on steep climbs and up on downhills right when I wanted. It doesn't have a throttle, and I do like a throttle, but the hill start assist covers most of that. If you're used to riding bikes and you've been on the fence, this is probably the one to buy.
What I liked
- Auto assist and auto-shifting work together really well, even on steep inclines
- Mid-drive motor feels much more responsive than a hub motor
- Hill start assist gives you a boost from a stop
- Suspension seatpost made rocky trails way more comfortable; almost like a dual-suspension bike
- SRAM DB4 hydraulic brakes had plenty of stopping power
- Fenders, rear rack, turn signals, and integrated lights make it commuter-ready
- App-connected color display with location tracking
What I didn't
- No throttle
- Rear rack only holds about 59 lb
